Preserving the Film Look

The goal of editing film scans should be to enhance, not replace, the film's characteristics. Over-editing can make film look digital.

Basic Adjustments

• White balance: Adjust to taste, but don't fight the film's color cast entirely
• Exposure: Correct any scanning inconsistencies
• Contrast: Film often needs a slight contrast boost after scanning
• Avoid: Heavy noise reduction that removes grain character

Color Correction Tips

Use the HSL panel sparingly. Film colors are part of its character. Focus on overall tone rather than making each color 'accurate'.
