What Is Push Processing?
Push processing means underexposing film (shooting at a higher ISO than rated) and compensating with extended development time. This increases contrast and grain.
When to Push
- Low light situations where you need faster shutter speeds
- When you want more contrast and grain for artistic effect
- Concert and event photography
- Classic photojournalism look
Common Push Combinations
Tri-X at 1600 is a classic look. HP5 can be pushed to 3200. Color negative film can usually be pushed 1-2 stops, but color shifts may occur.
